Overview
The Clarkston Community Center website supports a wide range of programs and services for a multilingual, multicultural community.
As part of the 2017 48in48 Atlanta initiative, our team was tasked with redesigning the organization’s website in just 48 hours to better reflect its mission, improve usability, and create a modern, mobile-friendly experience.
Problem
The existing site struggled with outdated visuals, inconsistent layout patterns, and limited mobile optimization. Content-heavy pages created long scroll lengths and made it difficult for visitors to quickly understand the Center’s mission, programs, and ways to get involved—especially on smaller screens.
Approach
Working within the tight constraints of the 48-hour build, we focused on simplifying content hierarchy, clarifying calls-to-action, and introducing a cleaner visual rhythm. Emphasis was placed on accessibility, responsive behavior, and ensuring that core information—programs, events, and donations—was easy to find.
The site was built on WordPress, requiring design decisions that balanced flexibility, maintainability, and performance within a CMS-driven environment. Layout and content structure were designed to support ongoing updates by non-technical stakeholders.
The layout was restructured to support a stronger grid system, improved readability, and a more welcoming tone that reflected the Center’s inclusive mission.
Outcome
The final result was a friendlier, user-focused website with a clean and accessible mobile experience. The redesign helped communicate the organization’s impact more clearly while supporting engagement across devices.
The project was awarded Best Homepage at the 48in48 Atlanta award ceremony and later received a Gold MarCom Award in 2018.
